Van Driver Training - Group Workshop

Give your drivers an all-important skills boost with this group workshop, helping them to avoid those costly bumps and scrapes.

How good are your van drivers when they're in a tight spot?

Low-speed damage is arguably the most common source of costs for van operators. Studies have shown that well over half of all leased vans are subject to end-of-lease damage charges, averaging nearly £600 per vehicle, 60% higher than the average charge for cars. A 3.5-tonne van can be driven on a standard Category B car licence, despite being much larger and having vastly different driving characteristics.

Size comparison of a small car and a large van

Having a licence isn’t enough. Do your drivers have the necessary experience and understanding of how to manouevre a large van safely? Are you confident that they know how to avoid getting into situations where they risk causing damage to their van, to other vehicles or property, or to the people around them? Our group workshop provides drivers with support in developing the right practical skills, enabling even inexperienced van drivers to manouevre with greater confidence and safety.

Course structure and outcomes

Our trainer will come to you at your business premises to deliver your van driver group workshop. After an initial classroom briefing session, your drivers will undertake a series of practical exercises under the guidance of the trainer, in the type of vehicle that they will be driving for work. Exercises include a low-speed slalom course, reverse bay parking and parallel parking. Your drivers will need to demonstrate awareness of the dimensions of their vehicle, and use enhanced observation techniques to identify the safest approach to each manouevre.
