Many of the new rules in the Highway Code stem from the Hierarchy of Road Users: a set of principles that establish a priority system designed to improve the safety of the most vulnerable road users.
Part of the new code advises cyclists to take one of two road positions, depending on the situation they’re in. Drivers might now encounter more cyclists riding in the middle of the lane, rather than sticking close to the kerb.
