Project EDWARD’s road trip goes live this week (13-17 September), with live broadcasts and events every day, promoting safety on UK roads.
The campaign, which is a collaboration between ARRM, RoadSafe, National Highways and Driving for Better Business, promotes an evidence-led, ‘safe system’ approach – the long-term objective of which is a road traffic system free from death and serious injury.
The project aims to provide a platform that showcases some of the best work being done around the country to promote:
- Safe vehicles
- Safe road use
- Safe speed
- Safe roads and roadsides
- Post-crash care
A few highlights of the week:
- Police forces across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland taking part in the first National Safe Speeds Day (15 September).
- Fire services, air ambulances and Safer Roads Partnerships will demonstrate new advances in post-crash care.
- In the New Forest, the crew will briefly swap four wheels for four legs as they consider the safety of horses and riders.
Also being launched is Vision Zero: Kent County Council’s road safety strategy which aims to ensure there are zero fatalities on the county’s roads by 2050. The event will feature demonstrations of vehicle safety technologies such as Autonomous Emergency Braking, and will highlight the gaps between car and van safety – a major theme for RoadSafe and Driving for Better Business.
Adrian Walsh, director of RoadSafe, commented: “Project EDWARD is about all road users, road authorities and emergency services joining forces with the aim of zero road deaths.
“Our road trips will be stopping at multiple locations each day to share exciting content, knowledge, interviews and stories all linked to keeping those who drive for work safe.
“We will be looking at safer drivers, safer vehicles, safer journeys and driver wellbeing as well as how best to manage those who drive for work in order to reduce risk, control costs and improve efficiency. Our aim is to provide a platform that showcases some of the best work being done around the country.”
