Whilst driving for work, little changes to your driving habits can transform your own journey, and those of fellow road users.
National Highways have launched a new campaign, urging drivers to keep left and stay at least two seconds behind the vehicle in front, helping to reduce congestion and collisions.
Middle Lane Hogging
By not hogging the middle lane and keeping at least two seconds from the vehicle in front, you’ll reduce congestion, collisions and transform your journey.
Do you know the effects of middle lane hogging? It can disrupt the flow of traffic, leading to congestion and can cause frustration to other road users. If you are overtaking, always remember to return to the left-hand lane when it is safe to do so.
Tailgating
If you’re too close to the vehicle in front, you are tailgating. This is very dangerous and it could cause a collision. Always leave at least a two-second gap and make sure you follow the advice from the Highway Code.
Have a conversation with your colleagues, recap on the importance of considerate driving, and watch the below video together:
Motorway driving isn’t a requirement of the standard driving licence test, meaning that many drivers take to the motorways for the first time without expert tuition or supervision. Business drivers often spend long hours driving on motorways as part of their jobs, you can help equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge for stress-free journeys with our Driving for Work course.
