We can’t wait to welcome you onto your Driving for Work Course. In preparation, please read carefully through the information below, which will help you to get the most out of your course.
- Driving efficiently
- The core principles of safe driving
- Parking and low-speed manoeuvring
Before the Session
Check your vehicle is roadworthy, e.g:
- Check tyres are at the correct pressure, and are not overly worn or damaged
- Check lights are all working
- Check fluid levels including oil, screenwash etc
Have a think about what you'd like to get out of the day
What would you like to work on? Some popular topics include: –
- Speed limit identification
- Tailgater management
- Hazard perception
- In-vehicle technology
- Traffic light-controlled roundabouts
It is your course, so just let your trainer know and we will try our best to include your chosen topic in the course.
And, don't forget to:
- Fill your vehicle with fuel (or ensure it is fully charged)
- Make sure you know how to reset the trip computer on your vehicle
- Make sure you know where to meet your trainer
- Think about what aspects of driving you’d like to develop or focus on
On the day
- Arrive with a full tank in your clean, roadworthy vehicle
- Bring your glasses or contact lenses if you need them for driving (you must be able to read a number plate from a distance of 20 metres)
Sign the declaration to confirm:
- You hold a full and valid driving licence for the relevant category of vehicle
- The vehicle being used for the course has a valid MOT certificate, if applicable
- The vehicle is covered by company/personal insurance including business use
Please note: if you cannot fulfil the above requirements, it will not be safe for us to proceed with your course. If you attend in an unsuitable vehicle, or do not comply with the eyesight requirements, the course will not go ahead. However, due to the short notice, your employer will still be charged for the course.
Lost or late?
- Call your trainer on the number provided in your course confirmation, or call Customer Services on 020 8996 9700 if you can’t find your trainer or if you will be late.
Please note that your trainer will wait for 30 minutes from the start time if you are late, but after that the course will have to be rescheduled (at cost to your employer).
After the Course
You and your employer will receive a comprehensive Driver Evaluation Report, where the trainer provides their scores and feedback including any recommendations for further development.
You’ll also receive a Certificate of Attendance, and a link to access some further learning resources that you can refer to in future whenever you need a reminder of the areas covered on Driving for Work.
